Occasional Use Parking Permits
Information

Exemptions

  • This permit ONLY provides exemption from the following regulations in the Traffic By-law:
    • 3 hour time limit; and
    • No Parking from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. December 1 through April 1

NOT Exempt

  • All other regulations in the Traffic By-law (no parking, no stopping, commercial vehicles, hydrants, etc.)

Area of Use

  • Permit is ONLY valid in 3 hour parking areas
  • Permit is NOT valid where signs are posted with other conditions while those conditions are in effect. Outside of those condition hours, the space reverts to a 3 hour limit and a permit can be used
  • Permit is NOT valid in downtown paid parking spaces at any time
  • Permit is NOT valid in No Parking areas

During Winter Control - IMPORTANT

  • Parked vehicles which interfere with winter control operations are subject to a fine of $60
  • Interfering means causing a plow or salter truck to veer off path and go around a vehicle or preventing a plow or truck from entering an area or street. For road safety reasons, the road needs to be cleared and salted from curb to curb
  • Permits do not exempt vehicles from this regulation
  • For information on the status of the City’s winter control operations, visit www.oshawa.ca/snow

Start / End Validity

  • Permits will be valid one hour from issuance
  • Until that time, vehicles need to comply with all parking regulations
  • Permits expire on midnight of the last day (similar to hotel bookings but end validity or ‘check out’ is midnight of last day)

Permit / Confirmation

  • No permit is required to be displayed - Officer handheld devices will advise if plate has a valid permit
  • If email address is provided, a confirmation will be emailed

To Receive a Permit

  • Visit Service Oshawa, 50 Centre St. S
  • Call Service Oshawa, 905-436-3311
  • After hours voice mail directs users to say “Permit” to be redirected to Fire Dispatch to issue permit

Owner vs Customer

  • It does NOT need to be the registered owner of a vehicle who receives, cancels or modifies a permit

Changes and Cancellations

  • If requested, can be made by Service Oshawa up to day of start of permit
  • Once permit has started, current day cannot be cancelled or changed
